Post-trial haul

LUSH Angels on Bare Skin cleanser, Daddy-O shampoo, American Dream conditioner, MISS SHOP nail polish, AMERICAN APPAREL leather medium coin purse

I don't think I've ever really done like a 'haul' post, but I probably should from now on? I'm actually waiting for a pair of UO sandals and my Dolly Wink liquid eyeliner to come in, which should be soon, and I bought a pair of loafers the other day too.. Anyway, trials finished yesterday! Chemistry lucky last, ha, it used to be my favourite subject until I screwed up in the 3rd assessment task, lost my top 10 rank and now I've kind of just lost hope for it. These trials were actually the worst round of assessments I'd done for the whole year. If you were to go through each of my subjects and ask me if I was prepared for the exam in the morning of the actual exam, then my answer would be no. For every single bloody subject. Literally winged English both paper 1 and 2, and senior science. Left all my studying for the night before, argh. But anyway, all this depressing trial-talk aside, since exams were done, I went out right after to Nick's place and went shopping.

The plan for yesterday was: lunch, Lush, salt caramel macarons, Moochi, Myer/American Apparel, so we went to Sushi Hotaru for lunch first. I'm pretty sure Sushi Hotaru is the best sushi train I've been to (but that's because I've only really been to, like, 4) in terms of taste and price. Pretty sure me and Nick have figured that our favourites are the seared scallop and salmon ones, soooo good. After that, we found Lush in QVB, where I probably spent too long looking and smelling everything, being indecisive then finally actually deciding to buy the a shampoo, conditioner and cleanser. I usually wouldn't even spend that much on cosmetics so hopefully these products actually work out for me. I've tried (and fallen for) the Angels of Bare Skin cleanser though, it immediately made my skin smoother after just one use! Very glad I decided to buy it almost last minute. I haven't tried the hair products yet, but they smell really good and I'm *hoping* my hair will be softer, shinier and more hydrated soon. :(

We then went to Myer so I could finally buy my long-awaited American Apparel leather coin purse, since I'd finally decided that I should buy it despite the price (I'm comforting myself with the fact that it's made from real and very supple leather and I LOVE the gold zipper), and Nick said he wanted to buy a new cardigan. When he actually found one that he liked and we were in the line to way, I started having second thoughts about my coin purse cos I wasn't sure if I'd get sick of a black coin purse too quickly, so we were going to leave the store (we'd gone two escalators down already) when I changed my mind LOL so we went back up and bought it, and I spontaneously decided on this peachy and very-close-to-neon-but-not orange nail polish. It was either the orange, a neon yellow or a nice minty green-blue, but I don't have anything like this orange. Sounds gross, but it reminds me of the orange-cheese you'd find in McDonalds burgers, specifically the fillet-o-fish for some reason.. LOL. We were in a rush, so we quickly got some green tea and watermelon Moochi, then went to Coco Noir and bought a salt caramel and passionfruit macaron, right before leaving for the train home. AND WHEN I GOT HOME I COULDN'T BLOODY OPEN THE NAIL POLISH. It was screwed on so freakin' tightly, I had to submerge it in hot water while silently praying the glass wouldn't crack under the high temperature and cut my fingers and get nail polish in the cuts.. LOL. If anyone wanted to know, then it dries matte and one layer was more opaque than I thought it'd be.

Anyway, to all those still doing their trials: good luck! Give the exams everything you've got, so that you can walk out knowing you did everything you could, and at least you pushed yourself to your hardest. Gay, but I'm disappointed with how I went so I'm just hoping I won't be this underprepared for the HSC.

Hey! I'm sure you did great on your trials despite that feeling of being unprepared. I'm in year 11 at the moment, and I'm failing bio so bad and I'm thinking of picking up Senior Science in year 12.. everyone says it scales bad, but what made you choose it? I'm scared my ATAR will be bad because of the scaling of Senior Science, but I know my ATAR will be affected badly anyway if I continue with biology. Please help!! You're the only person I know of that does Senior Science and still does great in all their other subjects. Please help, it'd be much appreciated. x

Aw! Well, at first I never really wanted to do senior science, never really thought about taking it, but when at the end of year 11, because of the subjects I'd dropped (art, PDHPE) and taken up (+1u maths = 4u maths) I was sitting on 10 units and was very unsure about 4u maths, so I decided to take up senior science cos there was really nothing to lose from it, I could just drop it whenever I wanted to if I didn't like it, and it was a backup if I ever decided that 4u wasn't working out. Anyway, overall I quite like senior. I HAVE considered dropping it though, but that was because I felt too lazy to study for the assessment.

It also depends on what other subjects you do! I came into senior science around half a term into year 12 but never really bothered to catch up that much, but because I used to do PE, then I've found its helped in some places? Senior wil have overlap with chemistry, biology and a bit of PE. I think with physics a little bit, but I don't so phys so I'm not sure. I think you should talk to your teachers and advisors about what you should do.. I remember when I fist started senior, I really just had a 'I don't care about any of this, at all' kind of attitude and didn't really have an interest in what we were learning about, but to be honest, I haven't studied for senior any more than.. the day before an assessment (besides the research assignment), but I've still managed to pull through with one of my better ranks! So the content really isn't hard, and since I do all sciences, then even when I don't know the answer, I use my knowledge from my other subjects and hope I can scavenge some marks on it, or get it right. So if you so other sciences, then senior science shouldn't be bad at all!

Would you most likely drop bio? And do you enjoy it and stuff? Because if you like it, then it depends if you're willing to get better at it or what. From year 11, all that seems to be important is maybe.. learning/remembering what happens in meiosis, and what xylem and phloem are and what they do? They're the things I didn't bother with back then, and if I had paid attention then it would've made some things a little easier now.

Senior science kind of does scale pretty badly, because everyone does well in it. And I don't say that just to put pressure on you, I'm sure you'll be fine in senior. I personally don't take it too seriously because I'm pretty sure it won't count for me (but who knows!). Oh, it also depends on how many units you do, because I think if you can, pick senior as a back up? Two of my friends who used to do 4u are so glad they chose senior as a back up, because they dropped 4u a term or two into the year? While the scaling for senior is low, I think its very possible to do well, esp. if you put effort into it!

Hope this helps! If you have any questions then feel free to ask :))

The difference between you and I is the fact that you have the option of using Senior Science as a back-up. :( I'm currently doing 3 unit maths, adv english, modern, legal, bio and early childhood. I'll have to drop early childhood, leaving me with 11 units.

Since year 7 I've never understood science at all. In year 10, come subject selection time, I was determine to not do any sciences altogether, but that didn't go to plan as the subject I wanted to do (business) wasn't in a free line unlike all my other chosen subjects. So it was either hospo (I did great in food tech) or biology.. I initially chose hospo, but I changed it to biology because of the scaling.. thinking back, I wish I had stuck with hospo.

I'm failing or just passing all my assessments and I'm really scared. I'm thinking of getting a private tutor of bio, but I'm scared that the limited knowledge on the basics will prove the tutor to be not useful.. This sucks so bad!!

You've helped me a tremendous amount, so thank you! x

I think a privte tutor for bio would only really really help if you were all willing to and very determined to do well in it, because the only reason I do well in my sciences now, is because I went to a chem tutor. I was pretty bad in year 10 junior science as well, but I never had an interest in any of the social sciences or histories or anything except for art and PE, which is why I ended up with the sciences. So maybe a bio tutor would help, but if you do decide to get a tutor, then you'll have to put the effort

Are you doing okay in the rest of your subjects? Do you enjoy biology and find it interesting? Also, do you know your rank for biology? Bio would be higher scaling than senior science, and for biology a lot of it is just remembering.. Okay well senior is a lot of remembering as well. Um, senior science is.. Some stuff would be drawing from junior science knowledge, but if your teachers are good and thorough, then hopefully you'll do well in senior regardless of whether or not you were good in junior science. I'm not really sure how else to help, if you ask questions I could answer LOL but most if all, I'd recommend talking to your grade advisors and teachers. And don't be embarrassed! I never used to ask my teachers anything, but know that they're only there to help you and they've seen heaps of students who have probably been in the exact same position as you! :)
